Origin: Kirinyaga, Mount Kenya
Washing Station: Karimikui Coffee Factory

Variety: SL28 & SL34
Altitude: 1650mThe Karimikui Coffee Factory was established in 1966, and rests on six acres of land serving the villages of Githureia, Gituba and Kiamugumo in central Kenya. Currently it is affiliated with the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS), in an area where most smallholder farmers are growing tea, not coffee.
The cherries are hand sorted by the farmers before pulping, grading by density and fermentation for 16-24 hours under closed shade. The coffee is then washed and graded again in washing channels, before being soaked under clean water from the local stream for 16-18 hours. After soaking, the coffees are dried on hessian mesh mats for up to one day, then moved to the traditional drying tables for 12 - 20 days depending on weather and rainfall.
This coffee is sweet, lingering and has complex fruit notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, which remind us of fresh compote with a hint of citrus.
